According to various dating services it's okay to ignore people who take the time to message you if you're not interested in them. Although this definitely saves us time, are we all so busy that we can't take 20 seconds to message people back? No matter how many messages I get in my inbox, I always message people back if they've sent me a message. Why? Out of respect for the other person and to show I appreciate them taking the time to read my profile and contact me. In todays day and age it just seems that people are so wrapped up in themselves, that we ignore other people and don't consider their feelings.
On the other hand in some situations I would support ignoring some messages, if they do any of the following:
1) Put no effort into their message and only put a few words like "what's up" or "you're hot"
2) If their message is offensive or ignorant
3) If they don't relate anything from your profile in the message and you believe they just viewed your picture and didn't take the time to check out the profile you've filled out
It's totally up to your personal preference if you're going to message someone back but just remember to consider if the shoe was on the other foot, would you want a message back even if it's just a "thank you"?
