Christine (55 years old)
Christine has been participating in the online dating scene for about 5 months now. She currently has an account set up on E-Harmony, Seniormatch.com, and more recently Plenty Of Fish. Christine is not looking for anything serious, but is hopeful she will find someone that compliments her life. When we asked Christine what her impression of online dating was, she stated that:
"Online dating kind of feels like a shopping cart... you browse the isles... something catches your interest so you put it in your cart... think about it, and then put it back on the shelf."
Christine does not think that meeting people online is ideal, however she still has hope and will continue to be patient throughout this experience. She also stated that online dating might be more ideal for younger individuals in their twenties or thirties. Older individuals will obviously carry more baggage with them, so it makes the selection process a bit more challenging.
Adam (29 years old)
"Hi my name is Adam. I've been using Plenty of Fish's online dating service now for about 3 years, on and off. During this time I have found that most women you message are either too shy to respond back or they don't really know what they want. Although I can't say that for every woman on POF. There has been a few women who have responded back to me and we would correspond for awhile, and then we exchanged other contact information like email and cell numbers. With the few that I have corresponded with I have actually met with 3 of them. I had a few dates with each woman, and with the first one they decided after a few dates that I wasn't what they were looking for. The second one i dated was really fun and we had great conversations but after a good handful of dates I realized she was just looking to have "fun" and as much as I like to have "fun" I was at a point where I was looking for more then "just fun". The third woman i met with was one I had the most dates with and felt the best about. We actually were dating for about 7 weeks and having a great time, so I thought, until one evening she decided she had too much things going on in her life like work, debts, and her son, so therefore, she could not keep seeing me. This, in turn really threw me for a loop, as I really hadn't seen this coming and still till this day I am not sure really what happened. Now I consider myself a confident man, yet this situation has kind of made me doubt myself and made me wonder what I may be doing wrong, however it hasn't stopped me from continuing to use Plenty Of Fish. For myself, with my schedule of work, school, sports activities, and family, using an online dating service like Plenty Of Fish helps me to socialize still and meet women as I really don't have a lot of time to go to the more traditional spots you can meet women, like clubs, bars, etc. So through all the ups and downs I've experienced in online dating I still would encourage anyone who is single to give it a shot. Really if you use the site smart and safely, what really do you have to lose by trying it."
